ABOUT ME
I’m passionate about organizing, passionate about movement-building, and passionate about winning strategic campaigns that build power and movements. And I’m also an organizational development geek who understands that the secret sauce that makes all those things happen is an investment in and ongoing attention to the structures and processes that undergird your work--to maximize your impact and sustainability and set you up for the long haul.
From 2009-2019, I was the Executive Director of Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), a grassroots membership organization working for the freedom and equality of all people in Israel/Palestine. During that time, I led JVP’s growth into a leading national and international Jewish progressive force, expanding from four staff, six chapters, a few hundred members and a budget of $400,000 in 2009 to over 30 staff across the country, 70 chapters, almost 20,000 members and a budget of over $4 million by 2019.I’m most proud of having steered JVP through multiple stages of organizational growth while continuing to sharpen our political analysis, build strong partnerships with other movements, and always with a continuing focus on strong leadership development, base-building and strategic action for staff, board and members.
I came of political age in the 1990s, cutting my teeth on the fight against welfare “reform.” In my years of working with racial, economic and environmental justice organizations and coalitions, there is a through line of core values that connects all these struggles to one another--and my work to build organizational power through effective structures, leadership development, and smart strategy. In 2021, I completed an introductory coaching course with Coaching for Healing, Justice and Liberation. In 2022, I completed an in depth facilitation training with AORTA. Here’s my full CV if you’re interested!
I live in Brooklyn with my family. I am proud to serve as Vice President of my synagogue Kolot Chayeinu and on the Leadership Team (board) of the anti-racist anti fascist organization SURJ. As a mom to two teenagers, I am in awe of the organizing power and commitment of their generation. When I’m not working or protesting in the streets, you might find me in the park with the dog or working on my latest knitting project.
